As a Senior (2012-13)
McCullough had a tremendous year during his final season running cross country at Cornell. He was consistently in the team's top five runners, placing fourth among Cornell harriers at the NCAA Northeast Regionals (and 49th overall). He also finished 20th overall at Heps and fourth among Cornell runners. Earlier in the year, McCullough was 14th at the Yellowjacket Invitational and 75th at the Paul Short Run. He also was sixth among Cornell runners at the Wisconsin Invitational. At the conclusion of the season, McCullough was given the John Reif Award for overall excellence.
On the track, McCullough set a new personal record in the 10K to earn a berth to the NCAA East Championship in Greensboro, N.C. He ran a 13th-place 5K at the Penn Relays earlier in the year, and he also took 17th in the 10K at the Outdoor Heps. His personal record of 29:46.41 in the 10K came at the Bison Outdoor Classic in April, and he lowered his PR by more than 20 seconds from his junior year.
As a Junior (2011-12)
McCullough's year was highlighted by taking fourth place for the Big Red at the Heptagonal Championships and then following that performance with a 62nd-place (fifth on Cornell) showing at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. McCullough's year began slowly when he took 22nd place at the Army-Binghamton meet, but he moved up to be the team's sixth-best runner at the Paul Short Invitational. By the time the Princeton Invitational rolled around, when McCullough finished 12th overall and fourth among Cornell runners, his place on the team was solidified and he ran very well in the final two meets.
On the track, McCullough took part in the Indoor IC4As, placing 10th in the 3K and missing scoring for Cornell by just three seconds. He was also part of Cornell's 22nd-place distance medley relay at that meet. At the Penn Relays, he took seventh place in the Championship 10K in a time of 30:06.58. His time of 14:25.83 in the indoor 5K is the 10th-best in school history as of the end of the 2012 season.
Before Cornell
McCullough won the Independent Schools state championship in cross country as a senior and claimed three straight Independent Schools state titles in the 3200m. He was a part of three straight cross country team championships in cross country and another two in track and field.
