As a Junior (2014-15)After missing the indoor season due to injury, Hairston came back strong, grabbing an Ivy League title in the 110 hurdles. He also picked up wins in the 110 hurdles (14.15) and the 400 hurdles (54.54) and a second-place finish with his 4x400 relay team (3:19.61) at the outdoor Upstate Challenge. His shuttle hurdle relay team set a new school record in the Championship of America, crossing the line in 58.10. He also won the 400 hurdles in 53.73 at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational and competed in the same event at the NCAA Preliminary Round.
As a Sophomore (2013-14)Hairston piggybacked on his fantastic freshman season with an even more phenomenal year. He kicked off his sophomore campaign with 1
st place finished in the 60 hurdles in consecutive events. He finished 4
th in the event at the Nittany Lion Challenge. He took a 1
st place finish in the 500 at the Robert J. Kane Invitational. Hairston followed that with a career best 500 time of 1:04.11 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine. His next big event was the SPIRE NCAA Indoor Invitational where he placed 4
th in the 60 hurdles. He had a huge performance at the Indoor Heps, scoring a 1
st place finish in the 60 hurdles with a career best 7.90, while finishing in 3
rd place in the 500. The following week he continued his dominance of the 60 hurdles, taking 1
st place at the Indoor IC4A’s. Hairston quickly transitioned to the outdoors, stringing together several impressive performances including a 1
st place finish at the Larry Ellis Invitational. He thrashed the field at the Outdoor Heps taking 1
st place finishes in both the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles, while also helping the Big Red take 1
st in the 4x4 relay. He carried the momentum to the NCAA East Prelims where he competed in both the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles. He scorched the track for new personal bests in both events, including a 13.74 in the 110 hurdles which jettisoned him to the Nationals. He marked 14
th place finish in the 110 hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, concluding the wildly successful sophomore season for Hairston.
As a Freshman (2012-13)Hairston was tremendous in his first year at Cornell, competing in improtant events and advancing to the semifinal in the NCAA East Regional in the 110 hurdles. Hairston began his year with a first-place finish in the 60 hurdles at the Indoor Heps. He also ran 13th place in the 400 at that meet. Hairston continued his success in the Indoor IC4As, placing sixth in the 60 hurdles to score three points for Cornell. At the Penn Relays, he was ninth in the 110 hurdles. And the following with at the Outdoor Heps, Hairston took second in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 400 hurdles, scoring points in both events. Hairston also ran 15th at the Outdoor IC4As in the 110 hurdles. In his last meet of the year, Hairston finished fourth in his heat in the 110 hurdles in 13.97 seconds, breaking the 14-second barrier for the first time in his career and advancing to the semifinal round with a Cornell freshman record. But Hairston suffered a tough fall in the next round and did not finish, ending his season just shy of the NCAA meet.
Before CornellHairston had a great indoor season as a senior running 7.98 for the 60-meter hurdles and anchoring his team to second in the state 4x400 relay with a 48.0 split. His outdoor season was cut short by a sports hernia, but he still managed to run 14.08 and 37.99 in the 300 hurdles to get places in both events.
