Biography
At Cornell: Mike made dramatic improvements for the second year in a row. As a junior, he established himself as the powerful leadoff leg in the 4x400 relay. Behind his big opening leg, running a 47.8 split, the Cornell team established an all-time Ivy best and school record of 3:11.01 as the team won the Big Red[apos]s first Heps title in nearly 25 years. Mike has also earned All-Ivy recognition in the 4x100. He will be looked on to lead the long sprint group in 2004. Individually, Mike dropped his indoor best to 48.46 for second on the all-time list, finishing third at the Heps indoors and fifth outdoors. As a sophomore, Mike recorded a sixth-place finish at the indoor Heps in the open 400 and ran the leadoff leg on the squad that finished a close second at the Penn Relays in 3:13.08. Mike[apos]s goals for 2004 include running under 47.50 and leading the 4x400 relay team to yet another Heps championship. He was also selected the top chemistry student at Cornell as a sophomore.
Top Performances: 200 meters--22.2; 400 meters--48.32; 500 meters--1:05.02.
At Sparta: Mike was an all-league selection in cross country and track and served as team captain for both as a senior at Sparta HS. During the track season, he set school records in the 200, 300,400, 4x400 and the high jump.
Personal: Michael J. Nanaszko is the son of John and Krystyna Nanaszko and has an older brother. Born: 1-6-82.
