Biography

At Cornell: Quinton finally came out of his shell as a junior and demonstrated his potential to be one of the top sprinters in the league. Cornell's top sprinter as a freshman, he got into the scoring act at the Heps by placing sixth in the 60 meters indoors last year. A stumble at the start in the semifinal of the Heps 100 was the only thing that kept him from running under 10.70 last year, but it motivated him to make the final of the 200 with a time of 21.73. Narrowly missing the IC4A standard in the 60, 100 and 200 will serve as motivating forces throughout his senior year. Carew is an excellent starter and lead off for the relay. Continued focus on technical improvements will yield big dividends as he strives to make his senior year his best ever.

Top Performances: 55 meters--6.1; 60 meters--6.95; 100 meters--10.74; 200 meters--21.70.

At Lisgar: Quinton was a three-sport athlete at Lisgar Collegiate as a member of the soccer, rugby and track teams. A five-year letter winner in track, he competed in the Ontario high school, legion and juvenile championships. He also ran for the Ottawa Lions Track Club and was named its juvenile male athlete of the year in 1997.

Personal: Quinton Carew is the son of Burian and Suzanne Carew and has two sisters. His father is a 1967 Cornell graduate. Born: 4-6-80.
