At Cornell: The 2008 cross-country captain, Luff experienced gains in fitness, confidence and consistency during the previous year. In cross-country, he was a regular in the top seven and lowered his Van Cortlandt Park 8k PR twice, first as the team’s seventh man at Heps and again when he earned All-East honors with a 10th-place finish at the IC4A Championships with a solid time of 25:31.0 on the storied course. In between those meets, Luff ran fifth for Cornell at the Northeast regional with a fine effort at Franklin Park. Luff spent the indoor season building fitness, which came to fruition outdoors when he ran an excellently-paced 10k of 30:34.67 at Bucknell, a PR by over a minute. He followed that performance with an 11-second 5k PR at the Penn Relays before finishing eighth in the 5k at the Heps and 11th in the 10k at the IC4As.

At Emmaus: High school highlights included 20th place in the Foot Locker Northeast Regional cross-country meet and runner-up finishes at the 2004 Pennsylvanian state cross country meet as well as the 2005 Penn Relays 3,000 meters. Luff also ran an excellent time of 9:10.14 for 3,200 meters.

Personal: Samuel Slamon Luff is the son of Janie Slamon and Bruce Luff and has a younger brother and sister.
