As a Senior (2014-15)Pawlak continued in the pole vault as a senior, posting three third-place finishes: outdoors at the Cornell Invitational and Upstate Challenge and indoors at the Southern Tier Collegiate Open.
As a Junior (2013-14)Pawlak continued to compete exclusively in the pole vault in his third year. He finished 3
rd with a clearance of 15’ 3” at the Robert J. Kane Invitational. His best performance of the indoor season came at the SPIRE NCAA Indoor Invitational where he posted a clearance of 15’ 10” to take home 11
th place. At the Indoor Heps, he posted a clearance of 15’ 5” to take home 7
th place. He wrapped up the indoor season with a clearance of 15’ 9” in a 15
th place finish at the IC4A’s. Pawlak seemed to get in a groove during the outdoor season. He marked a 3
rd place finish with a clearance of 15’ 9.25” at the Stanford Invitational. His best vault of the outdoor season came at the Penn Relays, where he posted a clearance at 15’ 11” for a 3
rd place finish. At the Outdoor Heps he marked a 15’ 9” to take home 4
th place. He again converted at that height to take 13
th place at the IC4A’s to conclude his junior season.
As a Sophomore (2012-13)Pawlak increased his personal best in the pole vault by more than half a foot in his sophomore year, and as a result earned a spot at the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C. There, he placed 38th by clearing 15' 7". Pawlak took seventh place at the Indoor Heps, just missing scoring for the Big Red. He also finished 10th at the Penn Relays Eastern section, and his big breakthrough came with a second-place showing at the Outdoor Heps when he set his new personal record.
Before CornellAs a senior, Pawlak captained the Milton track team to a third place finish at the NEPTA Prep School Championship meet, where he placed first in the pole vault and became the school record holder at 13’8. He earned all NEPTA honors in his last three years at Milton and was elected MVP in his senior year.
PersonalStephen Pawlak is the son of Yvonne Yoneshige and Richard Pawlak, both of whom are Cornell alums. He is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.
