At Cornell
Ryde was a member of the freshmen-8 crew that won the bronze medal at the 2010 Eastern Sprints before finishing in fourth place at the IRAs.

At Dr. Challoners Grammar
Ryde was a member of the Maidenhead Rowing Club and was invited to the Great Britain Junior Team final selection trials in 2009. He competed for Great Britain in the 2007 Great Britain vs. France competition. He also won a silver medal in the junior-16 pair, as well as the quad, in the 2007 national championships. Ryde also won a silver medal in the junior-15 pair at the 2006 National Schools Regatta. 

Personal
Alexander Iain Ryde is the son of Peter and Judith Ryde and he has one younger sister. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
