Biography
• IRA All-Academic Team (2019)
As a senior (2018-19)
• Competed in all nine regattas as a senior, spending most of his time in the sixth or seventh seat on the first Varsity eight boat.
• Helped the first Varsity eight to victories over Georgetown and No. 12 Penn, as the team crossed the finish line first in 5:30.80 to hoist the Madeira Cup and lead the Big Red to the James Wray Memorial Trophy.
• Assisted Cornell to a second place finish in the Petite Final at the 2019 EARC Sprints, placing eighth overall and fifth among Ivy schools.
• Rowed the Big Red to a sixth place showing in the Petite Final at the 2019 IRA National Championships, finishing 12th overall.
As a junior (2017-18)
• Rowed in the second varsity eight throughout the 2017-18 season.
• Helped the second varsity eight to a sixth place finish in the Petite Final at the 2018 IRA National Championships, placing 12th overall.
• Led the second varsity eight to a third-place finish in the Petite Final at the 2018 EARC Sprints to take ninth place finish overall.
• Rowed in the second varsity eight that defeated Penn to help the Big Red take home the James Wray Memorial Trophy for the 11th consecutive season.
As a freshman (2015-16)
• Rowed with the fourth varsity eight throughout his rookie season, winning a bronze medal at the 2016 Eastern Sprints.
• Helped the Big Red to wins over Harvard, Navy, Syracuse, Penn, and Dartmouth during the cup season.
Prior to Cornell
As a member of the US Junior national team, Greubel earned an 11th place finish in the men’s four with coxswain at the 2014 Junior World Rowing Championships. He was a two-year letter winner at St. Joseph's Preparatory School, helping his crew to a second place finish in the varsity eight at the 2014 Scholastic Rowing Association of America Championship Regatta.
Personal
Andrew John Greubel is the son of Peter Greubel and Janet Lioy and he has one older brother and one older sister. His sister, Jamie Greubel ’06, was a standout member of the Big Red track and field team, winning four Heps championships and setting the school record in the heptathlon (outdoor) and pentathlon (indoor). Since 2007, she has been a member of the US bobsled team and won a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
