Biography
At Cornell
In his junior season, Schang rowed in the varsity eight that finished in seventh place overall at the 2014 Eastern Sprints, its best finish since taking fourth in 2009. The crew then bested its seed by one spot at the 2014 IRA Regatta, finishing eighth overall. Schang moved into the varsity eight during his sophomore season and helped the crew take eighth place at the 2013 EARC Sprints before finishing 11th overall at the 2013 IRA Regatta. He rowed in the freshmen eight during his first season with the Big Red and was named co-MVP of the squad. Schang helped the crew to a bronze medal at the 2012 EARC Sprints and to a fourth place finish in the Grand Finals at the 2012 IRA Championship. During the regular season, the freshmen eight earned victories over Georgetown, UCSD, Syracuse, Navy, Princeton, Yale and Penn. Â
Prior to Cornell
Schang rowed for five years in his home country of Germany where he won gold medals at the German championships coxless four and the German championships eight, both in 2007. He also won a silver medal at the World Rowing Junior Championships coxless four during the same year.
Personal
Christopher Carl Schang is the son of Dr. Thomas and Bettina Schang and has an older sister. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
