Biography

• IRA All-Academic Team (2017)

As a junior (2016-17)
• Began his junior season as a member of the varsity eight before moving to the second varsity eight.
• Helped the second varsity eight take the Big Red’s best finish at the 2017 EARC Sprints, placing fifth in the Grand Final.
• Part of the second varsity eight that also took Cornell’s best finish at the 2017 IRA National Championships, placing fourth in the Petite Final and tenth overall.
• Rowed the second varsity eight to a victory over Penn.

As a sophomore (2015-16) 
• Rowed with the fourth varsity eight throughout his sophomore season, winning a bronze medal at the 2016 Eastern Sprints.
• Helped the Big Red to wins over Harvard, Navy, Syracuse, Penn, and Dartmouth during the cup season.
• Also rowed in the varsity four at the 2016 IRA National Championship and helped the Big Red to a fourth place finish in the Petite Final to take 10th overall.

As a freshman (2014-15) 
• In his first season, Manion rowed with the first freshmen eight that had the Big Red’s best finish of the day at the 2015 IRA Regatta, advancing to the Grand Finals and crossing the line fifth overall.
• Also rowed with the first freshmen eight that took fourth overall at the 2015 ECAC Sprints.

Prior to Cornell
• Earned three varsity letters in crew at Belmont Hill School, serving as team captain as a senior, and also rowed for the Cambridge Boat Club.
• Was a member of three consecutive NEIRA Team trophy winning crews (2012-14) and won the New England Championship in 2012 in the school’s fourth boat, while taking a silver medal in 2013 in the second boat.
• Qualified for Youth Nationals in 2013 and 2014, taking 14th in the 2- (2013) and second in the 4+ (2014).
• Also played basketball and ran cross country for two seasons.
 
Personal
• Mac Masters Manion is the son of Harry and Jaime Manion and he has two brothers and one sister.
• His father played baseball for Arizona State, while his uncle, Al Mattaliano, wrestled at Notre Dame.
• He also had two cousins, Cara and Valerie Mattaliano, which played volleyball for Princeton and Boston College, respectively.
• Manion is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business.
