Biography
• IRA All-Academic Team (2016, 2017)
Junior (2015-16): Savin rowed in the varsity eight during his junior season, helping the Big Red defeat Syracuse and Penn to win the Goes Cup, as well as beating Penn and Dartmouth to take home the Madeira Cup. At the 2016 Eastern Sprints, he helped the varsity eight to a fifth place finish, before winning the Third Level Final at the IRA National Championship for a 13th place finish overall. Following the season, Savin was named to the IRA All-Academic Team.
Sophomore (2014-15): As a sophomore, Savin rowed in the second varsity eight that won the Petite Finals at the 2015 ECAC Sprints, before taking second in the Petite Finals of the 2015 IRA Regatta.
Freshman (2013-14): In his first season with the Big Red, Savin helped the freshmen eight to win a bronze medal at the 2014 Eastern Sprints. The crew went on to be the Big Red's lone boat to race in the Grand Finals of the 2014 IRA Regatta and placed sixth in the nation.
Prior to Cornell
Savin lettered three times at Lake Oswego high school, serving as team captain during his senior season. He took fifth place in the men’s double at the 2013 Youth Rowing Nationals. Savin also rowed in the men’s four at the Youth Rowing Nationals, taking ninth and 12th place in 2012 and 2011, respectively.
Personal
Ilia Dmitrievich Savin is the son of Julia Savina and he has one younger brother. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
