Biography
At Cornell
Voter was the co-commodore of the men's heavyweight rowing team and was credited with helping to change the culture of the Cornell crew through his persistent hard work and positive attitude. After helping the freshmen eight earn its first Eastern Sprints medal in 32 years, the Dresher, Pa. native moved into the varsity eight boat for his final three seasons. As a sophomore, he helped the Big Red earn a bronze medal in the IRA Grand Finals, coming in behind the two top-ranked crews, Cal and Washington. The third-place finish by Cornell was its best finish at the IRA since taking third in 1994. As a junior, he led an exceptionally young crew to a victory in the 2011 IRA Petite Final, while personally posting one of the top-five erg times all-time in Cornell history. In 2012, Voter helped Cornell earn a top-six national ranking and led the team to a victory in the Carnegie Cup, defeating Princeton and Yale for just the fifth time since 1984. Following his senior season, he helped the United States men’s heavyweight eight win the gold medal at the 2012 U23 World Championships. Off the water, he is an exceptional student and was a student-leader of an ROTC Navy unit. Voter was also a member of Quill and Dagger and Red Key Honor Society.
At St. Joe’s Prep
Voter rowed all four years at St. Joe's Prep where his boats won an SRA national championship s in the men's freshman eight, as well as four Philadelphia City Championships and three Stotesbury Cups. As a senior, he rowed third seat in the heavyweight-8 which, in addition to winning the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, captured gold in the men's youth eights at the Head of the Charles, silver in the men's eight at the USRowing Youth Nationals and reached the quarterfinals at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta. Voter also won a silver medal for Hawk Rowing Club in the boys' four with coxswain at the 2007 USRowing Club Nationals. Voter also lettered three times in ice hockey.
Personal
James Daniel Voter is the son of Warren and Nancy Voter and has two older sisters and one younger brother. He is enrolled in the College of Architecture, Art and Planning. Voter is a midshipman in Cornell's Naval ROTC Unit.
