At Cornell
In his junior season, McGrorty rowed in the fourth varsity eight that finished in sixth overall at the 2014 Eastern Sprints. As a sophomore, McGrorty rowed in the second varsity eight that won the Petite Finals at the 2013 EARC Sprints for seventh place overall before taking eighth at the 2013 IRA Regatta. He rowed in the open four during his rookie season, helping the crew to a first place finish in the Petite Finals at the 2012 IRA Championship. 

Prior to Cornell
McGrorty lettered twice at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, capturing the St. Andrew’s Regatta championship three times, the Manny Flick points cup championship three times, reaching the gold medal finals of the Stotesbury Cup Regatta three times, the Scholastic Rowing Association Nationals three times, the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship four times, the Philadelphia Rowing Scholastic Association “Cities” four times, and winning three gold medals and one bronze at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. He also competed with the United States Junior National men’s rowing team quad+, placing fifth at the World Rowing Final Recice in the Czech Republic.

Personal
John Robert McGrorty is the son of John and Anne McGrorty and has two older sisters. He is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
