Biography
At Cornell
As a junior, Sullivan was a member of the fourth varsity eight that won the gold medal at the 2015 ECAC Sprints. He also rowed in the varsity four with coxswain at the 2015 IRA Regatta that struggled with injury and finished in 12th place. During his sophomore season, Sullivan rowed in the varsity eight that finished in seventh place overall at the 2014 Eastern Sprints, its best finish since taking fourth in 2009. The crew then bested its seed by one spot at the 2014 IRA Regatta, finishing eighth overall. Sullivan had a solid freshman season, rowing in the freshmen eight that earned the bronze medal at the 2013 EARC Sprints before finishing just outside the medals with a fourth-place finish at the 2013 IRA Regatta.Â
Prior to Cornell
Sullivan competed in rowing four years at Loyola Academy, leading his team to the 2011 Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championship in the second varsity eight, and a second place finish at the 2011 Scholastic Nationals. He served as team captain his senior season. Sullivan also participated in the Head of the Charles junior eight race each year from 2009-2011.
Personal
John Thomas Sullivan is the son of Michael and Mary Sullivan and he has one older brother, Mark, who played football at the University of Illinois in 2011, and three younger brothers. Other family members who have played collegiate sports include his uncle, Dan Sullivan, who played football at Southern Methodist University (1982-84) and his cousin, Harry Sullivan, who played tennis at Dayton (2009-11). Sullivan is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
