In his junior season, Ruhl rowed in the third varsity eight that finished in fifth place overall at the 2014 Eastern Sprints. The crew, which entered the weekend as the eight-seed, went on to win the Petite Finals at the 2014 IRA Regatta to place seventh overall. As a sophomore, Ruhl rowed in the fourth varsity eight that finished just outside the medals with a fourth-place finish at the 2013 EARC Sprints.
