Biography
At Cornell
During his sophomore season, Hirschbeck was a member of the fourth varsity eight that won the gold medal at the 2015 ECAC Sprints. He also rowed in the varsity four with coxswain at the 2015 IRA Regatta that struggled with injury and finished in 12th place. In his first season with the Big Red, Hirschbeck helped the freshmen eight to win a bronze medal at the 2014 Eastern Sprints. The crew went on to be the Big Red's lone boat to race in the Grand Finals of the 2014 IRA Regatta and placed sixth in the nation.
Prior to Cornell
Hirschbeck earned three varsity letters at Canisius high school, serving as team captain as a senior after being named the freshman team captain during his rookie season. He was a two-time NYS gold medalist in the varsity eight and also won a bronze medal in the senior eight at the CSSRA National Championships in 2011. He was named the Canisius High School 2013 Letterman of the Year, awarded to the most outstanding athlete in a given sport. He also earned the team’s Freshmen Oarsmen of the Year award in 2010 and the Varsity Oarsmen of the Year award in 2013. Hirschbeck was also named the team MVP in 2012 and was an Ad-Pro Sports NYS scholar-athlete all-high crew team selection in 2013. He was a member of the West Side Rowing Club, where he earned a bronze medal at the 2010 USRowing Club National Championships in the junior B four with coxswain.

Personal
Mark James Hirschbeck is the son of Chris and Tina Hirschbeck and he has one older brother, as well as one older and one younger sister. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
