Biography

At Cornell
As a junior, Benning was a member of the varsity eight that took 10th overall to beat its seed at the 2015 IRA Regatta, after taking fourth in the Petite Finals at the 2015 ECAC Sprints to finish 10th overall. He was also a member of the varsity eight that beat Navy and Syracuse to win consecutive Goes Trophies for the first time since 2009/2010. Benning was also a member of the varsity eight that won its eighth consecutive Madeira Cup by beating Penn, while also defeating Dartmouth for the third year in a row. During his sophomore season, Benning helped the varsity eight to finish seventh place overall at the 2014 Eastern Sprints, its best finish since taking fourth in 2009. The varsity eight went on to best its seed by one spot at the 2014 IRA Regatta, finishing eighth overall. Benning had an outstanding rookie season, rowing in the varsity eight that took eighth place at the 2013 EARC Sprints before finishing 11th overall at the 2013 IRA Regatta. Following his freshman year, he was selected to represent the United States as a memeber of the men's four that went on to win the bronze medal at the 2013 U23 World Championships, held in Linz, Austria.  

Prior to Cornell
Benning was a six-time letter winner at Northfield Mount Hermon high school, captaining the crew as a senior. As a member of the Cambridge Boat Club, he led his crew to the 2012 club national championship in junior eight. He was also selected as a member of the 2011 US National Team in the junior quad.

Personal
Edward Corey Benning is the son of Greg and Anne Benning and he has one younger sister. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
