Biography

At Cornell
As a sophomore, Allen rowed as a member of the second varsity eight that placed second in the Petite Final to finish eighth overall at the 2014 Eastern Sprints. The second varsity eight went on to best its seed by one spot at the 2014 IRA Regatta, finishing ninth overall. Allen rowed in the freshmen eight during his first season with the Big Red and was named co-MVP of the squad. He helped the crew to a bronze medal at the 2012 EARC Sprints and to a fourth place finish in the Grand Finals at the 2012 IRA Championship. During the regular season, the freshmen eight earned victories over Georgetown, UCSD, Syracuse, Navy, Princeton, Yale and Penn.  

Prior to Cornell
Allen competed six years in rowing at Ballston Spa HS, placing third in the men’s youth quad+ at the 2010 Head of the Charles. He was also a 2011 USRowing youth national champion in men’s singles, also earning national championships in the same event at both the 2010 and 2011 SRAA men’s senior.

Personal
Ryan Joseph Allen is the son of Richard and Darlene Allen and has one younger brother, one younger sister, and one older sister. His uncle, Lee Clark, also attended Cornell. Allen is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
