At Cornell
Junior (2010): A first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection, Tomlinson's all-around play lifted the Big Red despite missing significant time with injury. She batted .344 with six doubles and three home runs on offense and was 3-5 with a team-best three saves and a 4.10 ERA in the circle. Tomlinson has an impressive 34-15 record on the mound in her three season while hitting .305 with 13 doubles, seven home runs and a .497 slugging percentage in just 177 at bats.
Sophomore (2009): An honorable mention All-Ivy League selection, Tomlinson was 16-6 with a save and a 2.36 ERA in 27 appearances and 17 starts. Her 16 wins ranked second in the Ancient Eight and her 104 strikeouts placed her third. She struck out those 104 batters in 130.2 innings pitched and held opponents to a .241 batting average. Tomlinson hurled 11 complete games, was credited with two complete game shutouts and pitched in three other shutouts. Tomlinson allowed just four hits and struck out 11 in a complete game win against Niagara and punched out 10 in a three-hit triumph over Manhattan. She was credited with four straight complete games during the team’s southern swing and won both of her starts against Princeton by going the distance, allowing one earned run and striking out 10 in 14.0 innings. At the plate, Tomlinson hit .270 with five doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI. She had five multi-hit games and drove in three runs four different times on the year.
Freshman (2008): As a freshman, Tomlinson had a number of impressive performances, but none more so than the no-hitter she threw against Ithaca on April 23. In that game, she allowed only two baserunners, both on walks, and struck out eight as she picked up her 14th win. For the season, Tomlinson led the Big Red in strikeouts, with 118, while being second on the squad in wins (15), innings pitched (126.0), games started (19) and opponents batting average (.214). She notched her first career victory against Niagara on March 2, and pitched her first complete game in her next start, an 8-2 victory over George Mason. Tomlinson did not record a loss after April 3, reeling off 10-straight wins to close out the season with an overall record of 15-4. She pitched three games with double-digit strikeouts, and set a new Cornell single game record when she struck out 14 in a nine-inning complete game victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on March 21. She also threw four complete game shutouts, and was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on March 25 and Ivy League Pitcher of the Week on April 22. Offensively, Tomlinson hit .310 on the season with two doubles and six RBI.
Prior to Cornell
Tomlinson was a four-time letter winner at Notre Dame HS, where she was a three-time member of the All-CVC first-team. Her junior year, Tomlinson pitched four consecutive shutouts to lead her team to its first state championship in school history. The next season, she did not allow a single earned run in the entire state tournament to lead her team to a second state tile. The two-time team MVP was twice named to the All-South Jersey first-team and the AP and Newark Star Ledger all-state first team. Tomlinson was also named the Trenton Times and Trentonian player of the year. She was also a member of the Latin and National Honor Societies.
Personal
Alexandra Leigh Tomlinson is the daughter of Kevin and Mary Kay Tomlinson, and has an older brother. She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
