Biography

As a senior (2014)
Onyon proved to be a workhorse throughout her Cornell career and ended ranked among the top 10 pitchers in school history in nearly every category. She was an honorable mention All-Ivy pick as a senior after finishing the season with an 11-10 record and a 3.04 ERA in 142.2 innings of work. She struck out 115 with just 36 walks and completed 17 of her 20 starts with a career-high four shutouts. The senior ranked third among Ivy pitchers in strikeouts and innings pitched, fourth in wins and ninth in ERA as a senior. Onyon closed her career ranked fifth in career strikeouts (389), sixth in appearances (92), games started (72), complete games (49), innings pitched (512.1) and shutouts (10) and seventh in wins (40) in Big Red history. Onyon punched out 10 hitters in a three-hit shutout of Georgetown and struck out 11 in a 10-inning loss to Colgate. Onyon scattered four hits in a complete game victory at Brown with eight strikeouts and also hurled complete game shutouts against Central Connecticut State and Princeton. In her final six collegiate games, Onyon was 4-2 with a 1.01 ERA in 34.2 innings. She struck out 25 with just one walk and allowed 31 hits over that span.

As a junior (2013)
Onyon posted a 15-17 record with a save and a 3.33 ERA in 34 appearances (29 starts) as a junior. She was the team's workhorse, finishing the season among the season leaders in innings pitched (second, 210.1), starts (second, 29), appearances (fourth, 34), strikeouts (fifth, 156) and complete games (fifth, 21). She finshed the year ranked in the top three in the Ivy League in innings (first), starts (first), complete games (first), appearances (second), wins (third, 15), strikeouts (third) and shutouts (third, three). Onyon threw more than seven innings in six different games, including a historic 15-inning shutout in a 1-0 win over Princeton. She scattered eight hits and struck out seven. Onyon pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in a 3-0 win over George Mason and also threw a complete game shutout against Ithaca. Onyon didn't allow an earned run in nine innings in a 4-3 triumph over Manhattan.

As a sophomore (2012)
Onyon emerged as one of the league's top pitchers and earned second-team All-Ivy accolades after going 14-5 with a 2.74 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 151.0 innings of work. Her 14 wins ranked tied for third in the Ivy League, while her ERA and strikeout total was fifth-best in the circuit. She really shined in Ivy League action, going 9-1 with a 2.28 ERA to go along with six complete games and two shutouts in 11 starts. Onyon allowed just six earned runs over her final 51 innings of work during the season, a 0.82 ERA. She was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week after helping the Big Red claim a share of the South Division title with a four-game sweep at Princeton. Onyon went 3-0 with a 0.45 ERA and three complete games, hurling 31 innings over her three contests in the circle. She surrendered 18 hits, all singles, while setting several game records. She allowed just one earned run in a season-ending 4-0 loss to Penn in a divisional playoff.

As a freshman (2011)
Onyon saw limited time in the circle as a freshman, going 0-2 with a 13.44 ERA in six appearances, including three starts. She retired the only two batters she faced in her first collegiate appearance against Rider.

At Saratoga Springs HS
Onyon was a three-time all-league selection as a pitcher at Saratoga Springs HS. A three-year member of the Saratogian and the Times Union's varsity all-star team, she was also named the school's most valuable softball player in each of her final three seasons. Onyon was a second-team all-area and fifth-team all-state selection after going 10-5 with a 1.28 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 98.1 innings as a senior. She also batted .419 on the season. Onyon was a three-year starter on the volleyball team, garnering all-star accolades each season.

Personal
Alyson Beth Onyon is the daughter of Paul and Mary Beth Onyon and has an older brother. She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
