Beth Ameno

Former University of Rochester softball All-American Beth Ameno begins her fourth season as assistant coach at Cornell University. She joined the Big Red coaching staff in August of 2009 and has helped the squad to three Ivy League South Division crowns and one Ancient Eight title.

In her three seasons in the dugout, the Big Red has gone 89-60-1 overall and 44-15 in Ivy League play. She assisted in the development of two-time Ivy League Pitcher of the Year Elizabeth Dalrymple, who became the school's all-time leader in strikeouts, as well as current All-Ivy pitcher Alyson Onyon.

A third-team All-American as a senior herself, Ameno was 23-9 with a 1.25 ERA in 201.1 innings on the mound. She struck out 254 and held opponents to a .178 batting average. Her 254 strikeouts in a season rank second only to the 257 she posted as a junior, while her 23 victories were also two off her own school mark. Ameno was named Liberty League Pitcher of the Week four times during her senior campaign.

In her four-year career, Ameno went 69-31 with four saves and a 1.49 ERA. She struck out 751 in 649.1 innings of work, allowing foes to bat just .205. She was named to the NFCA All-Northeast Region first team and was the Liberty League Pitcher of the Year as both a junior and senior. She was also a first-team all-league and All-University Athletic Association pick as a senior.

Ameno helped her teams to a 117-50 mark in her four years. At the plate, she hit .274 (111 for 405) with 64 runs scored, 22 doubles, six home runs, and 70 RBI to go along with 25 stolen bases.

Ameno is a native of Cheektowaga, N.Y. and attended John F. Kennedy High School. The 2009 graduate of Rochester earned her degree in brain and cognitive science.
