Former Colgate standout and Cortland assistant Stephanie Hartquist was named assistant coach at Cornell University in August 2013. She enters her fourth season in the Big Red dugout this season.

Hartquist spent 2012 as an assistant at Cortland, helping the Red Dragons to a national runner-up finish. She was part of the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Northeast Region Softball Staff of the Year under the direction of legendary head coach Julie Lenhart.

A four-year starter at Colgate, Hartquist was a four-time all-Patriot League selection. She was a first-team pick as a sophomore and senior. She earned first-team all-region accolades as a junior. Hartquist ranks in the top 10 at Colgate in career runs scored, hits, RBI, doubles, home runs and total bases. A career .314 hitter, she ranks second on the school’s list for hits in a season as a sophomore with 62 and posted a 24-game hitting streak. She graduated in 2012 with a major in Educational Studies while minoring in Sociology and Anthropology.

A local product, Hartquist was a three-time softball player of the year at Homer HS, earning first-team all-state accolades as a senior. She was a four-time first-team all-Central New York selection.

Hartquist is the granddaughter of former Big Red volunteer assistant coach Bill Butler.
