Boyle continued to be one of the best kept secrets on the Cornell squad, lettering again in 2011 as a fullback and special teams stalwart. An outstanding player on both the coverage and return teams, he made three total tackles while playing in all 10 contests. He earned his first varsity letter in 2010 after moving from linebacker to fullback. He saw action in all 10 games, seeing time in the offensive backfield and on special teams. Boyle carried once for two yards and posted five special teams tackles, but it was his work as a lead blocker where Boyle made his mark.  He competed on the junior varsity in 2009. Boyle is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.

At New Hartford
A three year letter-winner at New Hartford HS, Boyle captained the squad to a section championship while earning first-team all-league honors his senior season. He was named the 2008 New York State High School Football Coaches Class A Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the National Football Hall of Fame-Central New York Chapter 2008 Top Scholar-Athlete. During his senior year, Boyle played both ways, hauling in 33 receptions for 493 yards and nine touchdowns, while also recording 75 tackles and six sacks. Boyle earned all-league honorable mention as a sophomore and a junior. In addition, he was also a two-time letter winner as a member of the basketball team and received one letter for track.

Personal
John Vincent Boyle is the son of Brian and Martha Boyle and has two sisters. His sister, Maureen, competed in track and field at Harvard.
