As a Senior (2013)
Gruenenfelder finished his final season with the Big Red as the team's leading receiver with 32 catches for 388 yards and also led the team in all-purpose yardage with 526, averaging 75.1 yards of a offense a game. An All-CSFL First Team selection, his best performance came in the team's season opener against Post, making seven catches for 137 yards. He scored both of his touchdowns in his last game on Schoellkopf versus Princeton. Additionally, he returned a team-leading six punts for 28 yards and also returned six kickoffs for a total of 110 yards.Â
As a Senior (2012)
Gruenenfelder played in all seven games for the Big Red in his senior year, finishing the season with a team-high 28 catches and 378 yards. He had four touchdown receptions on the year and also returned 10 punts for 83 yards. He was a huge factor in the kick return game as well, bringing back six kicks for 124 yards. He finished fourth on the team in scoring with 26 points (4 TDs, 1 2-pt conversion), and he was honored by the league with a spot on the All-CSFL Honorable Mention squad.
As a Junior (2011)
Coming off a terrific sophomore campaign, Gruenenfelder again proved a vital asset to the Big Red passing game. Playing in all seven games, Gruenenfelder caught 27 passes for 413 yards and five touchdowns, two numbers that placed him second on the team in those categories. He also returned three punts for 26 yards, ran back six kicks for 117 yards and was third on the team in scoring with 30 points. For all-purpose yards, Gruenenfelder was second with 556.
As a Sophomore (2010)
In his first season as a starter, Grunenfelder was the team’s leading receiver and earned first-team All-CSFL for his efforts. He finished the year with 35 receptions for 420 total yards, averaging 60 yards per game through the air. He posted a long of 43 yards at Princeton and caught four touchdowns on the year, including a career-best two against Navy. Grunenfelder also rushed the ball seven times for 30 yards against the Tigers.
As a Freshman (2009)
Grunenfelder saw action in one game, making one catch against Mansfield for 35 yards.
At Chestatee
A tri-sport athlete at Chestatee HS, Spenser Gruenenfelder participated in baseball, football and basketball. He won his school's Golden Helmet award for the highest GPA and was also co-captain of the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes group.
Personal
Spenser P. Gruenenfelder is the son of Doug and Terri Gruenenfelder, and he has two younger brothers.
