Before Cornell
Ham was a four-year football player at Herricks, specializing in the defensive back, wide receiver and kick returning positions. He started for two years. Ham was also a four-year lacrosse player who earned two letters playing for his high school.

Steven Ham is the son of Young and Sun Ham. He has a younger brother named Edward.
