Biography
As a senior (2019)
• Earned CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team honors.
• Named the ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third straight year, joining teammate Lyanda Dudley among three recipients.
• Started every meet on both vault and beam.
• Registered a season-best 9.800 on bars in a dual meet win over SUNY Cortland.
• Scored 9.700 on both vault (13th) and bars (11th) at the Ivy Classic.
• Earned a spot on the ECAC All-Academic team.
As a junior (2018)
• Named the ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season.
• Earned second-team USAG Collegiate All-America honors on vault.
• Started in every meet on vault and bars, with her regional qualifying score ranking fourth on the team in both events.
• Posted a season-best 9.800 on bars at home against Penn, and twice hit 9.750 on vault – including at the USAG Collegiate National semifinals.
• Named to the ECAC All-Academic team.
As a sophomore (2017)
• Selected as ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, along with teammate Alexandria Bourgeois.
• Earned a spot in the vault and bars lineups during championship season.
• Scored 9.700 or better five different times, including on vault twice at USAG Collegiate Nationals.
• Added a 9.650 on bars in the semifinals to help the Big Red advance to team finals.
• Scored on both events to help Cornell win its second straight Ivy Classic title and also place second at ECACs.
• Named to the ECAC All-Academic team.
As a freshman (2016)
• Was part of the vault and bars lineup throughout the year.
• Earned regional qualifying scores on both events (9.540 on vault; 9.465 on bars).
• Her vault of 9.625 ranked among the top 20 at the USAG Collegiate Nationals.
• Posted career-high scores on both vault (9.725) and bars (9.575) at her first collegiate meet, the Lindsey Ferris Invitational hosted by George Washington.
• Earned a spot on the ECAC All-Academic team.
Prior to Cornell
• Kurfirst earned 15 all-state finishes over her last four years while competing for Action Gymnastics.
• Three-time team MVP.
• Won two state championships on uneven bars and two more on floor.
• Helped her team to a pair of state titles.
• Voted Most Outstanding Female Athlete at Lyons Township HS.
Personal
• Kelsy Elizabeth Kurfirst is the daughter of Leonard and Sally Kurfirst and has an older brother.
• Her brother, Kyle, plays soccer at Illinois-Chicago.
• She is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
