Biography
As a senior (2019)
• Was a regular starter on vault and beam fore missing the final two months of the season due to injury.
• Her score of 9.800 on beam at the Big Red Goes Pink Invitational was the top mark at the meet, while she also placed second on vault.
• Had two meets on vault with a score of 9.750 or better.
• Earned a spot on the ECAC All-Academic team.
As a junior (2018)
• Spent the season in the beam lineup and also competed in vault, including at the USAG Collegiate Nationals.
• Scored a season high 9.725 on beam in consecutive meets at Penn State and at the Ivy Classic.
• Her 9.660 regional qualifying score was the fourth-highest on the squad.
• Named to the ECAC All-Academic team.
As a sophomore (2017)
• Part of the championship lineup on beam and also competed in six meets on vault.
• Took eighth place at the ECAC Championships on beam with a 9.750.
• Had three meets where she hit for 9.750 or better, highlighted by a 9.775 at Penn.
• Posted a 9.750 at the USAG Collegiate semifinals to finish tied for 10th on beam, just missing out on making individual event finals.
• Named to the ECAC All-Academic team.
As a freshman (2016)
• Earned first-team USAG Collegiate All-America honors on both beam and vault.
• Posted the third-highest score on vault in school history with a 9.875.
• Was a two-time ECAC weekly honoree, earning Specialist of the Week on Jan. 17 and taking Rookie of the Week on Feb. 28.
• Was second on vault and fifth on beam at the ECAC Championships.
• Earned a spot at the top of the podium on vault and finished second on bars at the Ivy Classic meet.
• Posted the team’s highest regional qualifying score (9.740) on vault.
• Missed three meets due to injury.
• Earned a spot on the ECAC All-Academic team.
Prior to Cornell
• Mackey was a Level 10 state champion on floor, beam and vault while competing for Cascade Elite Gymnastics.
• Earned a regional title in 2015.
• Was the state vault champion in 2015, helping her squad to a team title.
• Earned an invitation to compete at the Junior Olympic nationals three straight years.
• Won the state Level 10 beam title in 2014 and the floor title in 2013.
Personal
• Malia Jean Mackey is the daughter of Bert and Jodi Mackey and has a younger sister.
• She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
