Biography
At Cornell
Free rowed in the second varsity eight during her junior season, helping that crew to victories over Syracuse, Boston University, Rutgers and Dartmouth, as well as a sixth place finish at the Ivy League championship. She moved into the varsity 4 at the 2012 NCAA Championship and helped Cornell to a fourth place finish in the Petite Finals, good for 10th in the nation. Free also rowed in the second varsity eight during her sophomore year.
Before Cornell
Free earned four varsity letters at South Eugene High School, rowing with the Oregon Association of Rowers. She helped the varsity quad place third in the USRowing Youth National Championships in 2007 and also attended the first USRowing Junior B Sculling Camp in 2008. Free also played soccer for 11 years and competed with the McKenzie United Soccer Association.
Personal
Ellen M. Free is the daughter of Randy and Gwen Free. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
