Biography
At Cornell
Van Fossen rowed in the second varsity eight during her junior season, helping the boat to victory in the Petite Finals to take seventh overall at the 2014 Ivy League Women's Rowing Championship. As a sophomore, Van Fossen rowed in the second varsity eight that took fourth place at the 2013 Ivy League Women's Rowing Championship, before winning the C Finals at the 2013 NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship for a 13th place finish overall. She had a very successful rookie season, participating in a variety of capacities for the Big Red. She rowed in the second varsity eight in the first two races of the year and helped Cornell to victories over Syracuse, Boston University and Rutgers. Van Fossen then rowed in the second seat of the varsity four, helping that crew to wins against Yale, Brown, Columbia and Dartmouth, as well as a fourth place finish at the Ivy League championships. She finished the season stroking the varsity four at the 2012 NCAA Championship, helping Cornell to a fourth place finish in the Petite Finals, good for 10th in the nation.
Prior to Cornell
Van Fossen competed in rowing for four years at Moorestown HS. She also participated with the CanAmMex team in the summer of 2009. Van Fossen did her club rowing with the Moorestown Rowing Club, winning a gold medal in varsity eight at the 2011 Garden State Championships, a silver medal in junior varsity four at Stotesbury Regatta 2010, and a bronze medal in junior varsity eight at Stotesbury Regatta in 2009. She also won one letter in swimming.
Personal
Emily Charlotte Van Fossen is the daughter of William and Beth Van Fossen and has a younger brother and an older sister, Kirsten, who is a member of the rowing team at Harvard. Her father was also a member of the rowing and swimming teams at Drexel University. Van Fossen is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
