Biography
Why Owen Chose Cornell: I was interested in Cornell because of the rigorous academics and the ability to study my many academic interests in the College of Arts and Sciences. When I visited and learned about the rowing program's the tight knit and supportive team, I knew that Cornell was the right school for me!
At Cornell
As a junior (2019-20)
• Rowed in the championship eight at the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta, finishing with a time of 16:21.888 ahead of Ivy League foe Dartmouth.
• Competed with the “A” boat during round one of the Princeton Chase, finishing in a team-best 15:44.198.
• Rowed with the “A” boat during round two of the Princeton Chase, earning a fifth-place finish following a time of 15:50.812.
• Rowed in the “B” eights boat at the Cornell Autumn Classic that took fifth place, crossing the finish line in 13:44.97.
As a sophomore (2018-19)
• Rowed in the varsity four at the Ivy League Championships.
• Rowed with the second varsity four twice.
As a freshman (2017-18)
• Rowed in the varsity four throughout her freshman season.
• Helped the crew to a second place finish in the Petite Final at the Doc Hosea Invitational.
• Rowed in the crew that defeated Columbia and Dartmouth.
Prior to Cornell
• Has rowed for both the New Canaan Crew and the Maritime Rowing Club.
• Served as team captain for the 2016-17 campaign.
• Rowing in the varsity 4x during the 2017 season, won silver at the USRowing Northeast Youth Championships and placed sixth at the USRowing Youth National Championships.
• Participated in the 2016 Junior World Championship Trials, competing in the junior 2x.
• Won a silver medal in the U19 4x at the 2016 USRowing Club National Championships.
• Captured back-to-back gold medals in the varsity 4x at the USRowing Northeast Youth Championships (2015, 2016).
• Earned a silver medal in the varsity 4x at the 2015 USRowing Youth National Championships, before placing fourth in the same race the following season.
• Rowing in the U17 2x during the 2015 season, won a gold medal at the Royal Canadian Henley and took silver at the USRowing Club National Championships
• Earned the boathouse’s Most Improved Award in 2015 before taking the Campbell Cole Walsh Award in consecutive years (2016, 2017).
Personal
• Margaret Evans Owen is the daughter of John and Mimi Owen and she has one sister.
• Enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
