Biography
Freshman Season - 2008
Wright appeared in 13 games as a freshman, earning the starting nod in seven of those contests. She made her collegiate debut off the bench on Sept. 5 against Oakland in the Big Red's 4-1 win, then made her first career start a week later against St. Bonaventure. Wright saw time both on the back line and as a forward for the Big Red in her first campaign.
Before Cornell
Wright is a highly decorated and versatile player with the potential to help out both on attack and defense. Wright was named the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's 6A-5A Player of the Year as a senior after helping Cypress Bay to a berth in the regional finals. As a forward during her junior season, she scored 33 goals and tallied 24 assists, and then moved to the back line as a senior and helped out on defense. Wright is an Olympic Development Program Region III player and has been to two U.S. National Team camps. She earned first-team all-county honors five years in a row. Wright has also helped her club team, Weston Soccer Club, to the State Cup final four in 2005 and 2007.
Personal
Samantha Ann-Elizabeth Wright is the daughter of Derrick and Paula Wright, and she has an older and younger brother. Her older brother, O'Neil, plays basketball for Nova Southeastern University. She will study in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell.
