At Cornell
After an extremely successful frosh season, great things were expected of junior Chiara Spinazzola last year.  She delivered big time for the Big Red, having one of the most successful sophomore seasons ever at Cornell, winning an Ivy League championship in a league record-breaking time in the 100 backstroke, breaking three individual school records and being part of three relay teams that were the best ever at Cornell and one other that came in at No. 2 on the all-time list.  

The first-team All-Ivy performer broke records in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, while capturing the No. 2 spot all-time for the Big Red in the 100 freestyle.  Her time in the 100 backstroke vs. Dartmouth and Harvard was also a pool record.  In relay events at the Ivy championships, Spinazzola was part of the school record-setting 200 and 400 medley relay units and the 400 freestyle relay group, while her 200 freestyle relay unit came in at No. 2 on Cornell's best list.

As well as her spectacular showing at the Ivy championships, Spinazzola excelled during the dual meet season, winning numerous events in the 100 and 200 back, 100 and 200 fly and the 100 and 200 IM for the Big Red and was named one of the Cornell Daily Sun's best sophomores at Cornell in any sport for her efforts.  She was also the recipient of the team's swimming MVP award.

Prior to Cornell
As a member of Narragansett HS, Spinazzola was named first-team all state and is a state record holder.  She was also a member of the Bay and Ocean State Squids, where she was a New England High Point winner.

Personal
Chiara Spinazzola is the daughter of Gianni and Judith Spinazzola, and she has a younger brother and younger twin sisters.  She is enrolled in Cornell's School of Hotel Administration.
