Sue Travis

Susan Travis, a lecturer in Cornell’s Division of Nutritional Sciences, is a registered dietitian. She specializes in community nutrition education program development, nutrition communications and counseling, sports nutrition, adolescent nutrition and eating disorders. Remove this last sentence..(Travis has worked at national, state and local levels, and she has conducted nutrition workshops for community volunteer leaders and health educators who work with youth across the US.)

After receiving both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Colorado State, Travis went on to obtain her RD and her Ph.D. from Cornell. Her research is focused on interactions about food and eating in families with adolescents involved in sports.

Travis has worked with cooperative extension and was a co-developer and is an ongoing supporter of the Parent Partner Programs for parents of young people with eating disorders who are in treatment. In addition, she has worked with placement of graduates and undergraduates in supervised field activites thoughout New York state and placement of dietetic interns in supervised practice sites. Travis has maintained a private nutrition counseling practice in downtown Ithaca, NY, for 15 years.

Travis authored a book, Fuel for Peak Performance, A Sports Nutrition Guide for Teens. She also was a co-developer of the statewide Nutrition Game Plan for Wrestlers sponsored by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association as part of the Wrestling Minimum Weight Certification Program.
