At Cornell
Emily Caras has emerged as one of the team’s leaders for the 2009-2010 season where she will serve as team captain. Last year at the Ivy League Championships, Caras stepped up her game by setting many personal and school records. The Championships were highlighted by Cornell record setting performance in the 200 butterfly when Caras finished with a time of 2:04.02. Also her time of 52.39 in the 100 free, the eighth best time in Cornell history, and her 1:58.80 in the 200 free, seventh best time, helped give the Big Red some points. After swimming a variety of events in early dual meets during her sophomore season, she had a break out meet against Brown where she earned a first-place finish in the 200 free and a crucial second-place mark in the 100 free. Caras’ great attitude continued at the Ivy championships where she placed in two of her events and two relays (200 free, 17th place, 1:54.06; 200 fly, 16th place, 2:07.80). She had a strong freshman year both in dual meets and also at the Ivies. In her first Ivy championship meet, she placed 19th in the 200 butterfly. Entering her junior year, Caras looks to better her butterfly and improve her distance freestyle for the Big Red. Her positive attitude will continue to be an asset to the team.
At Cape Elizabeth
An all-state performer for three years at Cape Elizabeth HS, Caras’ swim team won the state championship three times. She served as captain of her high school team and was also a two-time captain for her club team.
