Biography
As a sophomore (2019-20)
• Competed in all nine meets for the Big Red as a sophomore, including the Ivy League Championships.
• Raced in the 500-freestyle, 1000-freestyle, and 200-backstroke at Ivies, scoring points for the Big Red in all three events.
• Her 500-freestyle time of 4:57.18 in prelims at the conference meet ranks ninth all-time in Cornell history.
• Cracked Cornell’s all-time top-10 list in the 200-backstroke against Brown, placing second with the eighth-fastest time (2:01.85) in Big Red history and helping Cornell to the team victory.
• Made the A Final of the 200-backstroke at the Zippy Invitational, finishing eighth overall in 2:03.30.
• Notched personal-bests in the 200-freestyle (1:52.59) and 200-IM (2:09.12) at the Zippy Invitational.
• Found her rhythm in the 200-backstroke over the course of the season, notching four individual top-three finishes in the event, including a win against Columbia.
• Picked up a pair of top-three finishes in Cornell’s team victory over Binghamton, placing second in the 200-freestyle and third in the 100-backstroke.
As a freshman (2018-19)
• Her time of 2:02.52 in the 200 back at the Ivy League Championship is the 10th-fastest time in Big Red history.
• Also competed in the 100 back and 500 free at the Ivy meet.
• Won the 500 free and took second in the 1,000 in a dual meet victory over St. Bonaventure.
• Had a pair of top three finishes in the 200 back in dual meets.
• Earned the team's Joseph J. Lucia Team Spirit Award, given to the swimmer or diver who demonstrates passion and commitment to their teammates.
Prior to Cornell
• Caverly was a Junior National qualifier while attending Palisades Charter HS.
• Two-time summer Junior Olympics champion (100 and 200 back).
• Qualified for the Open Water nationals.
• Four-year varsity member.
• Swam club for a dozen years with Team Santa Monica.
Personal
• Gillian Borg Caverly is the daughter of Martin and Courtney Caverly and has an older and younger brother.
• She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
