At Cornell
In one season, sophomore Kim Summers managed to turned herself into a leader for the Big Red in many of the freestyle events, helped break a school relay record and has her name written in several events on the university's all-time top 10 list.
Summers was part of the 800 freestyle relay team that turned in a Cornell record-breaking time of 7:32.94 at the Ivy championships. In addition, she swam the school's fastest 500, 1,000 and 1650 freestyle events last year and was second in the 200 free. Her time in the 1,000 freestyle was good for third in the Cornell record books, her time in the 500 freestyle took over the fourth spot all-time, her time in the 200 freestyle placed her fifth in the history books, and her 1650 time came in at No. 10 all-time for the Big Red.
For her efforts last season, Summers received the team's Swiming Hardest Worker award.
Prior to Cornell
Summers was a four-time letter recipient for Kingwood HS. As a member of the squad, she was honored as a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American (2007-2009). She also earned all-state and was an individual district champion from 2006 to 2009. Summers also competed for the Blue Tide Aquatics, where she was named a Gulf All-Star.
