At Cornell
Laura Acchione enters her final season as a member of the Big Red as the team’s captain. As a junior, she finished 13th overall at the Ivy League Championship in the 200 free by breaking her own personal record by three seconds with a time of 1:53.40.
This was the sixth best time in Big Red history.
She also specialized in the 500 free style, where she possesses the seventh highest time ever at Cornell of 5:04.15, set at the Ivy League Championships. Building on the success from her freshman year, Acchione was a key contributor in dual meets as a sophomore, swimming in events ranging from the 100 free to the 1,000 free and the 100 fly. At the Ivy championships she had a strong showing, placing in both the 200 fly, where she had a lifetime best time of 2:08.25, and the 200 free. As a freshman, Acchione received the team’s hardest worker award, demonstrating her dedication to the team. She swam many different freestyle events and the 200 butterfly, as well as relays.
At Maryvale Prep
Although Maryvale Prep did not field a team, Acchione swam at the National Catholics Swim Meet as the school’s lone swimmer and reached finals all four years. A Speedo sectional qualifier, she swam on a club team for four years, and was a USA Scholastic All-American for the 2005-06 season.
