First-Team All-Ivy League (Indoor - Pole Vault) (2020)
As a Senior (2019-20)
• Broke the indoor pole vault record once before breaking it again with her 4.10m-clear at the Indoor Ivy League Heps Championships (2/29-3/1).
• Won her first Ivy title at Indoor Heps.
• Consistently improved her height throughout the season.
• Notched six first-place finishes and two runner-up placements in eight meets.
As a Junior (2018-19)
• Recorded eight top-five placements, including three first-place finishes.
• Finished fifth at the Indoor Ivy League Heps Championships (2/23-24).
• Placed eighth at the ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (3/1-3).
• Closed her junior season with a seventh-place finish at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships (5/4-5).
As a Sophomore (2017-18)
• Scored at the Outdoor Heps with a clearance of 12-2 in the pole vault for sixth.
• Won the pole vault at the Upstate Challenge (11-11 3/4).
• Placed in the top-10 of all 10 meets she competed in.
• Had outdoor season-best clearance (12-7 1/2) at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
• Indoor season-best clearance (12-0 1/2) came at the Nittany Lion Challenge
As a Freshman (2016-17)
• Had a stellar freshman season competing in the pole vault for Cornell, finishing in the top five in 11 meets and in the top 10 in all 12 competitions, including the indoor and outdoor ivy League Track and Field Championships.
• Indoors, won the Cornell Cabin Fever Invitational (12’6”), had a pair of second place finishes at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational and the Marc Deneault Memorial.
• Finished ninth at indoor Heps (11’11.75”).
• A vault of 12’10” moved her into second place all-time at Cornell in the indoor pole vault.
• Outdoors, cleared a career-best 13’1.5” to win the Transatlantic Series pole vault competition and move into a tied for second all-time at Cornell.
• Went on to place fifth in the event at outdoor Heps (12’6.25”).
Before Cornell
• Kao, a pole vaulter, was a two-year captain of the track team.
• The 2015 CIF Division I champion was also an all-county honoree all four years in high school.
• Was a member of the National Honor Society while in high school.
Personal
• Claire Vivian Kao is the daughter of Henry and Karen Kao.
• She has a brother, Owen, and two sisters, Lucy and Emma.
• Her father, Henry, and aunt, Linda Woo, both attended Cornell.
• She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
