Elise Buffinton, M.Eng ’15, returns for her second year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cornell women’s track and field team. Buffinton specializes in the pole vault and had much success in her first year with the team, coaching vaulter Eve Bishop ’14 to a new indoor school record of 4.00m, the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Pole Vault Championship, the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Pole Vault Championship and the ECAC Indoor Pole Vault Championship. The Cornell women pole vaulters placed first, second, fourth, and eighth in the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track and Field Championships and first, fifth, 10th, and 11th in the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships. All four vaulters achieved new personal bests during the year.
A 2014 graduate of Lafayette College, Buffinton earned a degree in Engineering Studies. As an athlete, she placed in all eight of her Patriot League Pole Vault Championships, winning three times. She also won the ECAC Indoor Pole Vault Championship in 2014 and is the current indoor and outdoor school record holder at Lafayette. She resides in Ithaca.
