Biography

At Cornell:

In her first year at Cornell, the transfer from Syracuse quickly established herself as one of the top weight and hammer throwers in the Ivy League. At the indoor Heps, Smolenski qualified for the finals of the 20 lb. weight, where she finished eighth. Outdoors, she made a much bigger impact on the league. The junior finished fourth in the Heps hammer with an ECAC qualifying throw of 161’8", ranking eighth all-time at Cornell. As one of the top returnees this year, look for Smolenski to challenge for a Heps hammer title in 2008. At New Hyde Park HS: Smolenski finished high school as the third-best hammer thrower in the country and the eighth-best weight thrower. As a senior, she finished fifth at the National Scholastic Indoor Nationals in the weight, was fourth at the Adidas Outdoor Nationals in the hammer and was runner-up at the Golden West in the hammer. Personal: Stephanie Marie Smolenski is the daughter of Edward and Anna Marie Smolenski and has an older brother, John Paul, who was an All American thrower at Purdue, and a younger sister.
