Mary Barger's up-to-date results
As a Sophomore (2016-17)
Barger ran in five cross country meets as a sophomore. Her season-best was a second place finish - first amongst Big Red runners - at the John Reif Memorial Run. She also finished 53rd at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, 27th at the Yellowjacket Invitational, 165th at the Penn State National and 66th at the Paul Short 6K Open Race. Barger also had a solid season on the track, claiming the individual title in the 1000 at the Robert J. Kane Invitational (3:01.22). Barger also had five other top 10 performances during the indoor season, including a collegiate-best 5:11.10 in the mile at the Marc Deneault Memorial. Outdoors, she also set a personal record in the 1500, running 4:46.85 at the Bison Outdoor Classic. Barger also had a fourth place finishing in the 1500 at the Cortland Classic and a fifth place finish in her first-ever collegiate 800 at the Big Red Outdoor Invitational (4:48.55).
As a Freshman (2015-16)
Barger had a strong debut cross country season, placing in the top 35 in all four races she competed in. Her season-best result was a fourth-place finish at the John Reif Memorial, shaving over a minute off her 5K time from the season-opening Brother Jasper Invitational. She also finished a respectable 17th at the Canisius Alumni Classic.
Barger was also impressive on the track, competing in the mid-distances and never finishing outside the top 10. She placed second in the 1500 at the Cornell April Cabin Fever Indoor Invitational and was third in the 1500 at the Cornell Outdoor Upstate Challenge.
Before Cornell
Barger is a gifted cross country runner (she placed 11
th at the NY Nike Regional cross country championships) and a highly competitive middle distance runner on the track, with a personal best of 2:57 for 1000 meters. In 2012 at Fayetteville Manlius, Barger’s cross country team won the Section III Championship, NY State Class A Championship and Nike Cross Country Nationals Team Championship. At Pittsford Mendon, Barger was the Section V Individual Cross Country Champion in 2013 and her team took home the section title in 2013 and when she was captain in 2014. On the track, Barger won sectional titles in the 1000 meters, 1500 and 4x800 relay. She was a four-time letter winner in cross country and indoor and outdoor track.

Personal
Mary Rita Barger is the daughter of James and Rita Barger. Her older brother, James, graduated from Cornell in 2013. She also has an older brother, Scott, and older sister, Julie. Her aunt, Marilyn Mawn ’96, was a member of the Cornell sailing team. Barger is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
