Biography

As a fifth-year senior (2021-22)

• Posted a 17-11 record at 157 pounds, advancing to the Round of 12 at the NCAA Championships.
• Was 3-2 at nationals, helping the Big Red to a xx-place team finish.
• After dropping a narrow 3-2 first round decision to third-seeded Jacori Teemer of Arizona State, won three consecutive matches in the back draw, including victories over No. 19 Kendall Coleman of Purdue and No. 13 Justin Thomas of Oklahoma. 
• Earned an at-large bid to nationals after placing sixth at the EIWA Championships.
• Named honorable mention All-Ivy after posting a 3-2 record against conference foes.
• Grabbed fourth place at the Southern Scuffle to kick off his season.
• All 11 losses came against nationally ranked opponents.
• Captured an EIWA Academic Achievement Award and was named Academic All-Ivy.
 

As a senior (2020-21)

• Season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 

As a junior (2019-20)

• Enjoyed a breakout season for the Big Red, going 25-10 with an 11-7 record in duals and a 4-1 mark in Ivy League duals.
• NCAA qualifier at 149 pounds following a second-place finish at the EIWA Championships.
• Owned a seven match win streak during the season.
• Won both the Cornell Open and the Bearcat Open with 4-0 records at each.
• Named to the All-Ivy League second team.
• Named to the EIWA All-Academic team.


As a sophomore (2018-19)

• Posted a 9-5 record at 149 pounds, including a 2-2 mark in dual meets.
• Won the Binghamton Open with wins over wrestlers from NC State, Penn State and returning starter and teammate Will Koll in the final.
• Was 1-2 at the Las Vegas Invitational.
• Earned dual meet wins over Binghamton and Indiana.
• Was 2-1 at the South Beach Invitational.
 

As a freshman (2017-18)

• Posted a 16-7 record at 149 pounds with five bonus wins.
• Placed at three tournaments, including runner-up finishes at the Shorty Hitchcock and National Collegiate Opens.
• Finished sixth at the New York State Intercollegiates.
• Wrestled at the Binghamton Open, going 3-2 with wins over wrestlers from Penn and Penn State.
• Competed in one dual meet at the South Beach Duals.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Richard was a three-time New York state champion at Holland Patent HS.
• A Fargo, NHSCA and Flo Nationals All-American, he posted a 265-26 career record – including 47-0 as a senior.
• Was third in the state as a freshman at 126 pounds before winning titles at 138 as a sophomore, 145 as a junior and 152 as a senior.
• Named an NHSCA Academic All-American.
• Owns the school record for career wins.
• Richard was an all-state running back and linebacker in football.
• The school-record holder for career tackles, he set the school’s season rushing record as a senior with 1,315 yards and 18 touchdowns.

• Hunter John Richard is the son of John and Gina Richard and has a younger sister.
• He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
