Biography

As a senior (2018-19)

• Posted a 20-9 record and qualified for EIWAs for the second time at 149 pounds.
• Named honorable mention All-Ivy League.
• All nine of his losses came by decision, with  seven coming by a takedown or less — including 3-1 defeats to then-No. 1 Matthew Kolodzik of Princeton and a pair to EIWA champion Anthony Artalona of Penn.
• Won the New York State Intercollegiate title and placed fifth at the Cleveland State Open.
• Closed his season by going 10-5 in his last 15 matches with four of the five losses coming to opponents that have were ranked in the top 20, with each coming by a takedown. 
 

As a junior (2017-18)

• Went 11-4 on the season, including 1-1 in dual meet competition.
• Took third at the Binghamton Open at 149 pounds.
• Won the New York State Intercollegiate B bracket with five consecutive victories, including three over Big Red teammates.
• Represented the Big Red at the Las Vegas Invitational at 149 pounds.
• Helped Cornell top Buffalo in a road dual with a 6-3 triumph over Jason Estevez.
 

As a sophomore (2016-17)

• Named second-team All-Ivy League after posting a 3-0 mark in conference action.
• Went 17-11 on the season, taking over the starting spot at 149 pounds midway through the season.
• Wrestled in seven dual meets for the Big Red.
• Took sixth at the EIWA Championships, with three of his losses coming by a single point.
• Won the Open Division of the New York State Intercollegiates at 149 pounds.
• Captured fourth place at the Binghamton Open, including winning five straight in the consolation bracket to get back to the third-place match.
• Competed for the Big Red at the Southern Scuffle.
 

As a freshman (2015-16)

• Furnas was 13-6 while competing in four tournaments.
• Was second at the Brockport Invitational, dropping a 5-3 contest in the finals to teammate Dylan Realbuto.
• Went 3-2 at the Shorty Hitchcock Invitational and placed fifth in the B Division at New York States after five straight wins in the back draw.
• Was 2-2 at Binghamton with wins over wrestlers from Sacred Heart and Maryland.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Captured an Ohio state title as a senior at 132 pounds while attending Olentangy Liberty HS.
• Became the school's first three-time state place-winner.
• Placed eighth to capture Super 32 All-America honors in 2015.
• Earned FloNationals All-America honors after placing third at 143 pounds as a senior.
 

Personal

• Jonathan Edward Furnas is the son of Andy and Darlene Furnas and has a younger brother.
• He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business.
