Biography

As a senior (2016-17)
• Became a three-time NCAA qualifier with a third place effort at EIWAs, his thrid trip to the podium in his career.
• Posted a 22-12 record as a senior, upping his career mark to 81-42.
• All 12 of his losses were to NCAA qualifiers.
• Recorded three wins over top 20 opponents.
• Placed third at the 2017 EIWAs with a pair of wins over NCAA qualifier Pat D’Arcy of Princeton.
• Won the Bearcat Open, finished third at the Las Vegas Invitational and was 2-0 at the Grapple at the Garden.
• Was 10-2 against EIWA opponents and finished 12-3 all-time at the EIWA Championships.
• Half of his 22 wins came with bonus points attached.

As a junior (2015-16)
• Grey went 7-9 on the year after missing more than half the season due to injuries.
• Spent much of the second half of the season in the starting lineup at 141 pounds, competing in seven dual meets.
• Three of his losses came by a takedown or less and four came to nationally ranked wrestlers.
• Wrestled at the Binghamton Open, Brockport Invitational and Shorty Hitchcock Invitational, as well as against Nebraska at the Grapple at the Garden.
• Owns an impressive 59-30 career record.

As a sophomore (2014-15)
• Became a two-time NCAA qualifier as part of a 19-12 campaign, including 12-4 against EIWA foes.
• Opened the NCAA championships with a win by fall over Chattanooga's 15th-seeded Nick Soto before losing a pair of decisions.
• Finished third at the EIWA championships to earn an automatic bid to the national meet.
• Three of his four decisions at EIWAs came by a single point (2-1).
• Second team All-Ivy after going 4-0 against conference opponents.
• Opened the season wrestling at 141 before settling back at 133.
• Began the season with five wins to claim the Binghamton Open title.
• Was 0-4 against top 10 seeded NCAA qualifiers at the National Duals, losing all four matches in narrow fashion with three coming by three points or less.

As a freshman (2013-14)
• Finished his freshman season with a 33-9 overall record and was an NCAA qualifier after a third place finish at EIWAs.
• Grey advanced to the All-America round at NCAAs, winning three matches in the wrestlebacks after dropping his first round match.
• The second-team All-Ivy pick was a perfect 25-0 against non-NCAA qualifiers and won tournament titles at the Jonathan Kaloust Binghamton Open, the New York State Intercollegiates and the Edinboro Open.
• He also finished fourth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational with losses to a pair of wrestlers in the top six nationally.
• Grey opened his career with 13 consecutive wins and ranked third on the team with his eight pins.

Prior to Cornell
• A consensus top 10 national recruit as a high school senior, Grey was ranked as the nation’s top-ranked wrestler by The Open Mat as a senior.
• He became the first-ever four-time champion at the Beast of the East Tournament and also won four titles at the National Preps.
• Grey earned a spot on the Junior World Freestyle Team, finishing fifth in consecutive years at the FILA World Junior Championships while competing in Bucharest, Romania and Sofia, Bulgaria.
• He captured the NHSCA national title and was also named to the Asics All-American first team in his final season.
• He competed in the Dream Team Wrestling Classic for Team USA where he defeated Iowa State-bound Kyle Larson 3-1.

Personal
• Mark Paul Grey is the son of John and Judy Grey and has two older brothers.
• His brother, Mike ‘11, also wrestled for Cornell and is an assistant coach on the Big Red staff.
• He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
