At Cornell
Danny Murphy joined the Big Red lacrosse coaching staff in June 2026.
Prior to Cornell
Murphy brings eight seasons of collegiate coaching experience to Cornell, most recently serving as associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Vermont. During his tenure with the Catamounts, Murphy directed an offense that ranked among the nation's elite, consistently leading the America East in key statistical categories. In 2026, Vermont's attack ranked third in the conference in assists per game (5.79), points per game (16.64) and scoring offense (10.86), while posting the second-best shot percentage (.304) in the America East. The Catamounts' extra man unit was exceptional under Murphy's direction, converting at 54.5% – the second-highest mark in the country.
Over his four seasons in Burlington, Murphy developed multiple All-Conference performers and helped Vermont to regular season titles and America East tournament appearances. In 2024, his offensive unit ranked first in the conference in shooting percentage, while three offensive players earned all-conference honors. His offensive schemes produced Charlie Pope, the 2025 America East Offensive Player of the Year.
Prior to Vermont, Murphy spent one season as a volunteer assistant at Michigan, where he worked extensively with faceoff specialists and player development. Before that, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Tufts University, where he helped lead the Jumbos to a National Semi-Final appearance and NESCAC Championship in 2021.
Playing Career
As a player for Tufts, Murphy was a standout attacker, earning All-American honors three times and serving as the 2019 team captain. He was a three-time first-team selection to both the NESCAC and NEILA, and was named the 2017 team MVP while helping the Jumbos to three consecutive conference championships.
Murphy, a Hauppauge, New York native, graduated from Tufts University in 2019 with a degree in political science.
