Jenny Petruzzo is the athletic trainer for the volleyball, women’s basketball and women’s sailing teams at Cornell. She also serves as a preceptor for athletic training students from SUNY Cortland. She is a member of the Student-Athlete Mental Health Committee and the Cornell Sports Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. Additionally, Petruzzo works in collaboration with colleague Becky Burns to increase staff engagement and professionalism through social and professional gatherings, events, and volunteerism.
Petruzzo joined the Big Red in 2010 as a graduate assistant athletic trainer working with the volleyball and softball teams. She then went to Canisius, where she worked with volleyball, men’s lacrosse, and men’s and women’s swimming & diving. She was also a preceptor for the athletic training students there in addition to the Athletic Training Club Moderator and a mentor for the BOC Examination for Canisius AT Students. After two years at Canisius, she returned to Cornell in her current position.
Petruzzo attended Ithaca College as a 2010 graduate for her degree in Athletic Training and a 2012 graduate for her master's in Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Psychology, as well as a master's in Sport Management. In her senior year of college, she was the athletic training student with the Big Red women’s lacrosse team.
She has been a certified and New York State Licensed Athletic Trainer since 2010 and a member of the NATA, EATA and NYSATA since 2007. She earned her Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist Certification in 2011 and has been a member of the NSCA since 2009. She has served the profession as a N.Y. representative for the EATA Student Delegation from 2009- 2011, NYSATA Social Media Committee Chair from 2011- 2020, NYSATA Website Committee Chair from 2012- 2020, NATA COPA Social Media Team Member from 2017- 2020, and is currently the NYSATA Region 5 Representative and Ad Hoc Committee Chair. She was the recipient of the 2016 NYSATA Star Track/ NATA Leadership Development Scholarship and completed that program in 2017.
Petruzzo is native of Rochester, N.Y. and currently resides in Ithaca with her husband, Nate, daughters, Whitney and Lindsey, and golden retrievers Wellesley and Maddie.
