Peter Bucci

Joined Cornell Athletics Staff: 2025

At Cornell: Peter works directly with the athletics director, coaches, and university leadership to develop and execute tailored fundraising strategies and annual work plans in support of Cornell’s 37 varsity sports programs. His top priority is to establish and steward purposeful relationships with alumni, parents, and athletics supporters. By achieving a firm understanding of each prospective donor’s unique philanthropic goals, Peter is able to recommend customized and meaningful avenues to partner with and support Big Red Athletics.

Before joining the athletics department, Peter spent three and a half years as a major gift officer for the SC Johnson College of Business. During his tenure at the College of Business, Peter more than doubled his new gift and commitment totals year over year, raising millions of dollars annually in support of Cornell’s To Do the Greatest Good Campaign. He was also selected to serve as real estate liaison, leading development and marketing initiatives for the Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate – an innovative, multi-college department established in 2022 by way of a $30M gift. And he was nominated to serve on the Frontline Monday Committee. The Committee, comprised of Cornell’s top producing frontline fundraisers, hosts weekly webinars to discuss industry best practices with Cornell’s entire 400+ person Alumni Affairs and Development division.

Prior to Cornell: Before coming to Cornell, Peter served as an athletics major gift officer at Hartwick College, following roles in corporate sales, marketing, and athletic development at multiple organizations including the Detroit Tigers, The University of Oklahoma, and Steiner Sports.

During his tenure with the Detroit Tigers, Peter was the club’s top salesperson in back-to-back seasons, including the 2012 season, when the Tigers won the American League Pennant. At Steiner Sports, Peter led corporate sales initiatives and managed Steiner’s multimillion-dollar corporate partnership with the New York Yankees. And at The University of Oklahoma, Peter worked directly with the senior associate athletics director to drive sales, marketing, and development initiatives in support of the $160M capital campaign to renovate Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Both the football and basketball programs reached the Final Four during Peter’s time at OU.
