Katie Schlein begins her first season on Head Coach Dayna Smith's staff as an assistant coach for the women's basketball program. Schlein comes to East Hill having spent the past season working as the assistant director of women’s basketball operations at the University of Denver.

At Denver, Schlein’s responsibilities included coordinating all the recruiting technology and film exchange, while also managing the operations of the Super Hoopers Kids Club. Schlein also assisted with the Pioneers' team travel, camps and clinics, coordination of student managers and alumni relations.

In her one season with Denver, the Pioneers finished with a 19-12 record overall and 11-5 mark in the Sun Belt Conference to finish second in the West Division and earned a bid to the WNIT, Denver's first post-season berth since 2000-01.

A native of San Diego, Calif., Schlein lettered in basketball and softball at Claremont McKenna College, where she graduated with a degree in psychology in 2010. While at CMS, Schlein helped guide the Athenas' women's basketball team to a SCIAC tournament appearance during her senior season and helped the softball team to two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and an SCIAC title.

Prior to attending CMS, Schlein spent two seasons at San Diego Mesa Junior College where she was a two-time All-Conference selection in softball and received her Associate of Arts degree in kinesiology.

Schlein's basketball administration experience began in October of 2005 when she served as a volunteer assistant coach at E.O. Smith High School in Storrs, Conn. From there, she served as a camp counselor/coach at numerous camps in California from 2006-07.

In October of 2007, Schlein served as the volunteer video recording intern for the San Diego State University women's basketball program. From there, Schlein served as a member of the event staff during the U.S. Junior Nationals in the summer of 2009, supervising and scoring the 14U, 15U, 16U and 17U tournaments.

Schlein was also one of 60 people chosen to participate in the WBCA's "So you want to be a coach" program at the 2010 NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four.
