An excellent center who is considered one of Cornell’s top all-time linemen, he was the sparkplug of the 1915 team though he weighed only 160 pounds. The ’15 team was undefeated and untied and was recognized as national champion. Cool was a second team All-America selection as a senior. One of the big games of the 1915 season was against Harvard when the Big Red pulled off a 10-0 upset victory, the Crimson’s first defeat since 1911. Quarterback Charley Barrett was knocked unconscious in the first half and Cool took over the team. His spirited, aggressive leadership held the team together when Harvard sought to take advantage. In 1938, he was named to Cornell’s all-time all-star team.
