Body Bar Invitational

Track the Action!
Fans can watch Friday's dual match against Penn State live on RedCast or track the action with live score updates on the NWCA's College Scorebook. Takedown Radio will also be broadcasting Friday's dual and the Body Bar Invitational on Saturday.

At the Helm
Rob Koll, the David R. Dunlop '59 Head Coach of Wrestling, begins his 16th season as mentor of the Cornell wrestling program. In that time, Koll has amassed a 172-67-4 overall record in duals and has led the Big Red to nine Ivy League titles. Cornell has captured two EIWA team championships and earned 23 EIWA individual titles. Koll, a four-time All-American and former NCAA champion, has helped Big Red wrestlers to capture four individual NCAA titles and 27 All-America honors.

Countdown to Nationals
The Big Red wrestling team enters the weekend ranked fourth in the nation by the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA Division I poll and will open its 2008-09 season facing No. 14 Penn State in Newman Arena. Cornell has eight wrestlers ranked individually with returning All-American Mack Lewnes leading the country at 165 pounds. The Big Red returns NCAA champion Jordan Leen and a total of six All-Americans and seven NCAA qualifiers.

Helping Out
Junior two-time NCAA qualifier Adam Frey will miss the fall of the 2008-09 season as he continues his personal battle against cancer. For every fan in attendance at Friday's match, sponsors will donate $5 to the Adam Frey Cancer Fund. Supporters can follow Adam's daily blog at www.adamfrey.us.

Scouting the Competition
Penn State heads to East Hill with a 0-1 record, after falling at home to Hofstra 18-15 on Sunday, Nov. 16. The Nittany Lions were up 12-7 through six bouts before the Pride came back to win three of the next four matches, including two by major decision. At 174 pounds, freshman Quentin Wright upset Hofstra's sixth-ranked Alton Lucas, 4-3. Penn State brings four nationally-ranked wrestlers into Newman Arena with No. 2 Bubba Jenkins at 149, No. 2 Dan Vallimont at 157, No. 16 Quentin Wright and No. 13 Phil Bomberger at 184 pounds. The Nittany Lions have won the last five matches against the Big Red, but with a veteran lineup, Cornell will look to avenge a pair losses to Penn State from last season.

A New Class
This weekend the Big Red will induct its fourth class into the Hall of Distinguished Wrestling Alumni. This year's class includes Charles Bush '64, Alex Steinbergh '62 and Geoff Stephens '66. They will be honored at half time at Friday's match. The Hall of Distinguished Wrestling Alumni was created during the 2005-06 season to recognize former Cornell wrestlers who have contributed to the sport of wrestling and their communities both on and off the mats.

The Best of the Best
Jordan Leen, Mack Lewnes and Troy Nickerson will all compete at the 43rd National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic on Monday, Nov. 24 in Columbus, Ohio. This marks the first time the Big Red has had three wrestlers competing in the event. Nickerson, a two-time All-American, will wrestle No. 3 Charlie Falck of Iowa at 125 pounds. Returning NCAA champion at 157 pounds, Leen will take on No. 2 Dan Vallimont of Penn State, and No. 1 Lewnes will face off against No. 4 Nick Marable of Missouri at 165 pounds.

Brute Binghamton Open
The Big Red had 26 wrestlers competing individually at the Brute Binghamton Open on Saturday, Nov. 15. Frank Perrelli (125), Mike Grey (141), Mack Lewnes (165), Steve Anceravage (174) and Zach Hammond all captured titles in their respective weight classes, while Jordan Leen (157) and Cam Simaz (184) finished in second place. The Cornell squad made quick work of much of its opposition, recording 20 wins by fall as a group. Lewnes led the way, pinning four of his five opponents.

The Fall Guy
Senior Steve Anceravage notched his 28th career win by fall at the Brute Binghamton Open last weekend to tie Cornell's career record for falls. The current record is held by Big Red volunteer assistant coach, Travis Lee (2002-05) and Walter Grote (1972-74). Anceravage broke the record for falls in a season as a junior with 17. Two-time All-American Troy Nickerson is moving up the career list and is currently 13th with 18 falls. Sophomore Mack Lewnes has 17 falls to rank 14th.

That's a Winner
With a record of 93-27, senior NCAA champion Jordan Leen ranks 13th in the Big Red record book in career wins, while senior Steve Anceravage ranks 17th with a 90-23 mark. Sophomore Mike Grey broke the school record for wins in a season as a rookie with 42.

Up Next…
The Big Red will break for the Thanksgiving holidays and resumes action Dec. 5-6 at the Las Vegas Invitational.
